heerenveen 2016On 15th March and 19th/20th March 2016 the 12th Masters’ International Speed Skating Long Distance Races and the 8th Masters’ International Sprint took place in Heerenveen/NED. With the World Cup Final in the weekend before in Heerenveen, we could count on very good ice conditions. And there was !!! This and the enthusiasm of the participants made we had two great tournaments. For the Long Distance Races there were in totally 31 participants: 11 men 10km, 1 lady 10km, 8 men 5km, 2 ladies 5km, 8 men 3km and 1 lady 3km. For the Sprint there were 24 participants (8 ladies and 16 men). Unfortunately, there were not many competitors from abroad, maybe caused by having the Masters’ Allround Games 2016 already in the Netherlands a week before.

So with the perfect Heerenveens’ ice conditions, skaters could, even at the end of the season, skate good times. We are very proud that there were improved two world records !!! The records were improved both on the 10 km, by Sandra van Bijlert (L35) in a time of 18:24.27 and by Kees Hooft (M40) in a new time of 14:31.05. Congratulations to both skaters !!! Also to all other participations for the great results and thanks to all for coming to Heerenveen for this nice closing of the skating season !!!
