On January 23d Ivan Uzubkin turns 85 years young, and he will celebrate his jubilee at the Max Aicher Arena, during the 19th International Master Sprint Classics competition.
By his profession, Ivan is an engineer, with a 50 years long and successful career, but by his passion, he is a professional athlete. Since early age he was involved in sports. He trained a lot and won numerous competitions over the years in cross country skiing, bicycle racing, swimming, running, triathlon and speed skating.
December 8-9, 2012 in KC "Kolomna" took the traditional Oleg Goncharenko Memorial, three-time world champion.
In competition took part 209 athletes from 14 regions of Russia, from 13 to 76 years.
Truly massive sporting event brought together athletes from different generations, showed continuity in speed skating. It led the whole families not only to the stadium seats, but on the ice.
They approach the starting line, two at a time, before an official with a French accent asks them if they're "re-dee?" The gun goes off, and they skate quietly around a 400-meter oval, swaying side-to-side, one hand on resting on their lower back. There's one lap, two laps; a little over a dozen laps during this 5,000-meter event, round and round for more than six minutes. They race against the times of the 26 other skaters in the competition, not their neighbor on the ice. As spectator sports go, long-track speed skating ranks somewhere between watching a stroll in the park and white noise.
Yet, lining the stands of the Richmond Olympic Oval south of Vancouver on Saturday were more than a thousand people dressed in orange (the color of the Dutch royal family), singing, ringing cowbells, waving noisemakers, treating this somniferous sport as it were a championship title bout. When Dutchman Sven Kramer, 24, won the gold and set an Olympic 5,000-meter record, they roared. But, then again, they cheered boisterously for every skater that passed by them. As sports fans go, no group is more bewildering than the speed-skating nuts from Holland.
And again Berlin ….
3rd Masters’ International SPRINT GAMES, January 22nd - 23rd, 2011
Traditionally, we come to the capital of Germany at the Masters Cup. But now another thing - in 2011 Berlin became the capital of Sprint Games. At this competition came a record number of participants. Never before been so widely represented Kazakhstan, Russia, Ukraine. Small, familiar yet from the 80s stadium “Sportforum”, one of the world's first indoor ice rinks in good order and continues to take the competition of the highest rank, including the stages of World Cup.
The first Russian Masters’ International Speed Skating Single Distance event took place in Kolomna from the 1st to the 3rd April. The distances on the first day were 500m, 1500m and 5000m and on the second 1000m, 1500m, 3000m, and 10000m. On the final day there were team events as well as a 50-lap race. 54 female and 110 male skaters from Belarus, Germany, Kazakhstan, Norway, Russia, Spain, and Ukraine took part in the competitions.
Starting well the speed skating season…
Erfurt/Germany, November 25th - 26th, 2006
Since I started my adventure in master speed skating two years ago, the competition in Erfurt is a fixed appointment. In the beautiful ice hall of Erfurt it is really a pleasure to skate: during the day the large windows allow the sun to light up the silver surface; the wood skeleton give you a magnificent view from every corner you are. In addition the ice is prepared to the
perfection by the expert personnel of the Erfurt Gunda Niemann Stirnemann Halle.
My dream is becoming a wonderful realty...traveling on bike through Norway by night !!! I will visit from June 19th 2013, just the year before the 23. Masters' International Speed Skating Games in Stavanger, mostly by night with "light of the midnight sun". On bike, with a tent and 20 kg package on a 10.000 km long trip my most favorite places in Northern Europe and will cast a special glance on the beauty of Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden and Northern Europe. I'll start in Niebuell on the German-Danish border. By map, by "travel blog" on the home page of my school and "by good thoughts" I can be accompanied by all my friends and other people.
